Aubrey S. Akerley

Peterborough, NH Aubrey S. Akerley, 92, of Peterborough, died at Pheasant Wood Center on February 11, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 1, 1923, in West New York, NJ, the son of Myles Howard Akerley and Ada (Shanklin) Akerley. He served in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII in the Pacific Ocean Theatre. Aubrey lived most of his adult life in Green Village, NJ with his wife Mary Akerley, to whom he was married for more than 64 years until her death in November 2012. Aubrey and Mary raised their five children and were very active in the community. Aubrey was a firefighter and eventually attained the rank of Chief for the Green Village Volunteer Fire Department. He was a devoted member of the Green Village Methodist Church. He enjoyed golf, fishing and vacationing in Canada. He spent over 40 years in the construction business, building and renovating houses, in partnership with his brother, Elmer. Aubrey is survived by his five children; Barbara Reid of Fair Haven, NJ, Patricia Owen and her husband William of Uruguay, A. Brian Akerley of Peterborough, Myles Akerley of Antrim, and Keith Akerley and his wife Laura of Hancock. He will also be dearly missed by his 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He leaves one brother Elmer Akerley of Wellsboro, PA and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday February 14, 2015 from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM at Jellison Funeral Home, 25 Concord Street, Peterborough, NH. A funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 3:00 PM. Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Aubrey's memory may be made to The Green Village Volunteer Fire Department, 529 Green Village Road, Green Village, NJ 07935
