Barbara Grace (Hannon) Lobacki, a devoted wife, loving mother, and compassionate community volunteer, passed away peacefully at her RiverMead home in Peterborough, NH on July 22,2023, surrounded by loving family members.
Barbara was born in Cambridge, MA on May 7. 1933, the daughter of John and Florence (Parker) Hannon and moved as a young child to Peterborough. She was raised on Summer Street and graduated from Peterborough High School where, among other activities, she captained the girls’ basketball team. Post graduation, Barbara worked at the office of local dentist Dr. Ward Stoops.
In September of 1952, Barbara married Edward Lobacki, which was the beginning of a 40-plus year love-filled journey. The family home on Lobacki Drive in Peterborough, where Barbara and Ed raised their four children, was known as a festive warm and welcoming spot for family, friends, and colleagues to gather over several decades. These included holiday parties, family celebrations, dinner groups, and the occasional ConVal parties where they hosted large visiting groups of high schoolers. Barb loved to travel with Ed, the family, and their many friends. Travel started with a cross-country car honeymoon visiting national parks as well as cities and towns from Peterborough to San Francisco, and continued later in life with trips to Maine, Florida, the Caribbean, and Europe. Also, wherever the kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were living.
After raising her young children Barb joined the Pediatric practice of Drs Grassi and Mathewson, which grew into the large Monadnock Regional Pediatrics practice it is today. As the practice receptionist, Barb was known all around town as the kind, well dressed, and welcoming face of Monadnock Regional Pediatrics. Until her passing, Barbara took great joy in being recognized with great appreciation by many parents and children she met and supported at the office. She particularly delighted in the fact that many of the children she took care of in the office later brought joy to her life as caregivers at RiverMead.
Barbara was an active participant in community activities whether with the local Girl and Boy Scouts, or in supporting causes for children’s healthcare such as walking the Boston Marathon route to raise money for the Dana-Farber Jimmy Fund. In the walk she proved her commitment and stamina by out walking many younger participants.
Barbara is survived by her four children: Jim Lobacki of Hancock, NH; Vicki Bush of Blythewood, SC; Joe Lobacki of Boston, MA; Sandi Lobacki-Strang of Kentfield, CA; nine grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
Barbara's kind spirit, generous heart, and unwavering commitment to her family and community have left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished in our hearts.
Those wishing to share memories and respects with the family are invited to attend a visitation on Friday July 28, 2023, from 11am to noon at Divine Mercy Parish, 12 Church Street, Peterborough, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 12:00pm. Burial will be private for the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Barbara’s name to the Dana-Farber Jimmy Fund.
The family thanks all the people at RiverMead for their kindness and friendship to Mom and all of us.
