Carolyn Chase Fellows, 93, of Peterborough, died peacefully on August 8, 2017 at RiverMead surrounded by her children. Carol was born on July 2, 1924 in Manchester, the daughter of Curtis Corning Chase and Marian Perkins Chase. Carol was born in Manchester and lived in Londonderry until 1936 when she moved to Newport. She graduated from Newport High School in 1942, where she played trombone in the marching band. She attended the University of New Hampshire and graduated from Simmons College in 1947. Carol worked in various secretarial jobs, including at New York Life Insurance and WMUR-TV in Manchester. Later she would work as secretary of the First Church of Christ, Congregational in Glastonbury CT. Carol came from a banking family and family of skiers. She was an accomplished downhill skier and her brother, Curt Chase, became a ski legend and was former director of the Aspen and Snowmass Ski Schools. On September 6, 1947, she would marry a banker and skier, Robert S. Fellows, who had returned home after serving as an Air Force Lt. Col. in World War II. They had three children, and Carol became a dedicated homemaker at a time when women, who had taken jobs vacated by men during the war, returned to the home and approached homemaking as a career. At one time, Carol ran a day care center in the basement of their Peterborough home. Different places where they made their home included Plymouth MA, Peterborough, Manchester, Exeter and Glastonbury CT. Carol and Bob retired to Peterborough and were winter residents of Sarasota FL. One of her son Bob's fond memories is that Carol would drive him on his bicycle delivery route of the Manchester Union Leader in the north end of Manchester on days there was a blizzard. Her daughter Marilyn's fond memory is how her children benefited from her remarkable skills in cooking, sewing, knitting, and music. Her son Jim remembers her as witty and colorful, loving music and her family. Carol is survived by her brother Dave Chase and three children: Rev. Robert C. Fellows of Peterborough and Greenland, Marilyn Fellows Kellogg of Kingston, and James D. Fellows of St. Augustine FL and Dublin. She will also be missed by her six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Carol was predeceased by her loving husband of 68 years, Robert S. Fellows, and her brother Curt Chase. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Union Congregational Church, 33 Concord Street, Peterborough. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Carol's name to Union Congregational Church. To leave online condolences, go to www.jellisonfuneralhome.com
