Celia "Cc" Brooks

Celia Cass Brooks, “CC”, age 96, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home in her own bed – exactly as she wanted it – in the early hours of October 25th, 2022. CC was born in Peterborough, NH on May 9th, 1926. A lifelong resident of Peterborough, she was one of 15 Cass siblings. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Brooks, “Dick”, her son Robert Brooks, “Chip”, and her fourteen siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Marcia Brooks, her son-in-law, Andy Seamans, her grandchildren, Lucy Seamans, and Zeke Seamans, and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

The Cass siblings were very close growing up. With ten sisters and four brothers, CC never lacked a friend. The siblings had their own baseball team, played in the Cass Hillbilly Band, and walked three and half miles each way to the movie theater, all the while singing in harmonies. In the winter they skated on Cunningham Pond and skied Pack Monadnock. CC liked to remind people that she played basketball in high school, took all the foul shots, and was called “Blood and Guts”.

CC lived a kind and generous life, finding something to love in everyone. She and Dick regularly hosted her sisters’ and brothers’ families for dinner, and the house was always full of love and laughter. Aunt CC was everyone’s favorite aunt, always arriving at family events with her famous cream puffs. She was a little 4’7” lady with a very big heart. It was a banner day for four generations of children, when they were taller than her. So many of them have a picture with her of this banner day.

Having deep faith, CC was a member of the United Church of Christ for her entire life. She was always a loving and compassionate helper. Her friends, nieces and nephews returned that love and compassion in her later years with visits, baked goods, sundaes, and good humor.

A funeral service will be held at the Union Congregational Church, 33 Concord Street, Peterborough, NH on Tuesday, November 1st at 11:00 a.m.
