Dublin, NH Clarissa MacVeagh Silitch, an editor, teacher, painter and translator, died peacefully on March 5, 2017 at her farm in Harrisville, NH. She was 86. Born in New York, NY on December 18, 1930 Clarissa was the daughter of Charlton MacVeagh and Adele (Merrill) MacVeagh. She was raised in Saint Louis. MO and graduated from Webster Grove High School. Clarissa received her B.A in Russian studies with a minor in French from Bryn Mawr College in 1952. Upon graduation she spent over a decade as a Russian and French translator and editor for several clients including the United Nations and E.R. Squibb. Clarissa then turned her efforts to teaching French and translating Russian materials in the Milford and Peterborough NH Public Schools. The third chapter in her illustrious career was as a Senior Editor for Yankee Publishing, Inc. which spanned nearly two decades. Clarissa grew up going to the "Adams Farm", her family's summer home in Harrisville, NH, and permanently moved to Dublin, NH in 1966. An avid animal lover, she was always surrounded by wonderful horses, dogs and cats throughout her life. Clarissa also enjoyed mural and portrait painting and illustrating children's stories and poems she wrote. Clarissa is survived by her two sons and five grandchildren, Ian Silitch of Ocala, FL and his children Alexander and Spencer, and Nicholas Silitch, and his wife Regina, of New York City and their children Kyra, Owen and Aidan. She will also be missed by her siblings Peter MacVeagh of Saint Louis, MO, Adele Bourne of Providence, RI, Charlton MacVeagh, and his wife Diana, of Marlborough, NH and Priscilla MacVeagh, and her husband Ed Gisler, of Vancouver, Canada. Rebecca Simino, Clarissa's close friend and loving caregiver for 14 years, will also miss her greatly. A Celebration of Clarissa's life will be held this summer. In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Clarissa's name to the Monadnock Humane Society or the Friends of the Dublin Public Library.
