Constance Porter, 89, of Jaffrey and Peterborough, died peacefully at her home at Rivermead on February 16, 2018. She was born in Milford, MA on August 1, 1928, the daughter of Herbert Charles Wright and Emily Smith Grant.
Connie was raised in Milford, MA and graduated from Milford High School. She moved to the Washington DC area in 1946 where she joined the FBI, working as a secretary. After meeting her husband in Washington, they moved to Groton, MA where they renovated the oldest house in town and raised their children. Connie later worked as a librarian at the Groton Public Library. In retirement, the Porters moved to Georgetown, ME where they enjoyed the ocean. After spending 15 years in Maine, they moved to Jaffrey, NH to be closer to family. They resided there until settling at Rivermead.
Her love of horses and pursuit of equestrian skills had been among her key passions in life. Her enjoyment of animals later extended to dog breeding. When Connie wasn’t riding or raising champion Shelties, she expressed her artistic side through her many oil paintings, jewelry pieces and other works of art she created. Throughout her life she also enjoyed making music, playing the piano and classical guitar.
Connie is survived by her children Deborah Porter-Hayes and her husband John Hayes of Hancock, Samuel Porter and his wife Kimberly Vercoe of Southborough, MA and her granddaughter Kira Porter of Southborough, MA. She will also be missed by her sister Jean MacKeen of Sierra Vista, AZ.
She was predeceased in 2016 by her loving husband of more than 65 years, Richard Porter, and in 1996 by her brother Herbert Wright, Jr.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Constance’s name to the Monadnock Humane Society, 101 W Swanzey Rd, Swanzey, NH 03446
A Celebration of Constance’s life will be held at The Village at Rivermead in the Pub on Monday, February 26, from 2pm – 4pm.
Burial will be in the spring in the family plot in Shrewsbury, MA.
