Dorris B Richmond, RN, passed away suddenly on May 13, 2022, at the age of 89. She was the beloved wife of Charles Richmond, 98, for 36 years.
Dorris, "Dorry" was born in Goshen, New York, daughter of the late John and Ruth (McNeil) Brown. She attended Orange Community College in New York, which was the first associate degree nursing program in the United States. Dorry went on to work in Boston, Massachusetts as a registered nurse at the Peter Bent Brigham Cardiac Unit. Dorry was married to Rodger Grace, they moved from Massachusetts to Deerfield, NH, where they raised their three children.
Dorry worked in Manchester NH Hospitals, including Elliot and CMC, and as a school nurse in Deerfield, NH. She was instrumental in the development of PRAISE, a peer support drug outreach program in NH. Because of her work, she was the recipient of an award from NH narcotics officers. Dorry was the creator and owner of Doriti Gelato and past owner of Codfish Aristocracy. Additionally, Dorry worked for Gero-Tech as a research officer.
Dorry was a devoted and valued member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Peterborough. She was an avid member of the Peterborough Garden Club, and in conjunction with the garden club, educated Peterborough public school students, promoting ecology and gardening.
Dorry was larger than life, full of vibrance, and had a huge passion for life. She was a wonderful mother, devoted nurse and friend to many near and far.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Rodger Grace, and by her parents.
Dorry is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Grace, RN, of Vermont, her two sons, Peter Grace, of South Berwick, ME, and Curtis Grace, of Brentwood, NH, Kathryne Grace (his wife), and their three children, her beloved grandchildren: Damon Grace, Owen Grace. Additionally, Dorry is survived by her adopted Geddi family from Somalia, who knew her as their devoted "mum", and all of whom she adored and supported!
Funeral services will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, 51 Concord Street, Peterborough, NH, on Monday, May 23, 2022, at 11am. Gathering for all to share memories will immediately follow at the Peterborough Public Library, 2 Concord Street, Peterborough NH. Parking for both the church service and the gathering at the library will be at the All Saints Episcopal Church parking lot, located directly across the street from the church. Funeral arrangements made by Jellison Funeral Home. Donations may be made in memory of Dorry, or in honor of her husband, Charlie, a US Veteran, to the NH Veterans Home, 139 Winter Street, Tilton, NH, 03276, FBO Resident Benefit Fund.
