Dr. Arthur Lee Mathis

Peterborough, NH Dr. Arthur Lee Mathis, 70, of Peterborough, died at Pheasantwood Center on August 27, 2014 after a period of failing health. Arthur was born in Miami, FL, the son of Charles Mathis and Naomi (Stephens) Mathis on December 12, 1943. Arthur grew up in Miami . He moved to Tennessee before moving to Boston, MA where he spent most of his life before moving to Peterborough, NH nine years ago. He worked as a Doctor of Psychology at Meharry College in Boston for many years. Arthur loved music, was an avid reader and enjoyed writing. He was the author of several books. He also spent a great deal of time philosophizing about life. Arthur is survived by his daughter Njeri Mathis- Rutledge of Houston, TX, and his granddaughter Haley Grace of Houston, TX; his brothers, Jonathan Mathis of San Diego, CA and Julius Mathis of Atlanta, GA and his sister, Aussireta Mathis of Miami, FL. He will also be missed by several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, an uncle and a host of very dear friends. Arthur is predeceased in death by his Parents Charles and Naomi Mathis, his brother Willie C. Mathis and his sister Deloris Mathis. A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, August 29, 2014 from 6:00PM to 9:00PM at 84 B Grove Street, Peterborough, NH. A memorial service will be announced at a later date to take place in Miami, FL.
