Hancock NH Edwin C. Eldred, Jr. passed away peacefully on February 26, 2015 at Summer Hill Assisted Living after a period of failing health. He was born in Beverly, MA on April 15, 1921 to Edwin C. Eldred, Sr. and Annie (Tingley) Eldred. Edwin grew up in Beverly, MA and attended Beverly schools. It was at Beverly High School where he met his loving wife, Priscilla. Edwin served in the United States Army Air Corp as a Navigator during WWII and received a Purple Heart. He had a long career in mechanical engineering and retired in 1983. After retirement, Edwin and wife settled in Hancock where he was active in the community. He was a member of The Old Crocks and volunteered on the Cemetery and Depot Restoration Committees. He enjoyed marching in the Hancock Old Home Day Parade as a Minuteman. In addition to his loving wife of 74 years, Priscilla (Perkins) Eldred, he leaves his children; Emily Yeo of Supply, NC; Susan Eldred of Portland, ME; Pauline Eldred of Cape Coral, FL; the late Janet Eldred of Hamden, CT; and Stephen Eldred of Newport News, VA. He will also be missed by 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and his 7 nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring and will be announced at a later date.
