Edwin E. Adams, 78, of Hancock, passed away peacefully and surrounded by the love of his family on September 5, 2024, at Spring Village at Summerhill. He was born in Weymouth, MA on March 11, 1946, the son of Everett and Hazel (French) Adams.
Edwin graduated from Peterborough High School in 1965. He enlisted in the Navy after High School and was stationed on the USS Saratoga in which he took great pride. Edwin was an avid golfer who also loved most any kind of recreation including; biking, bowling, fishing, tennis, and baseball. When his three children were growing up he could be found helping coach their sports teams and volunteering as a baseball/softball umpire. He was a very loud and proud New York Yankees and Giant’s fan, often purposely wearing his Yankees ball cap to local establishments to get a rise out of the local Boston fans. In his younger years Edwin loved to ride his Harley Davidson motorcycle and often traveled North in the summer to the annual motorcycle week in Laconia.
Edwin was employed for many years at Harris Construction Co. in Peterborough as well as several years with Adams Construction Co. of Hancock. After that, he spent 18 years employed at People’s United Bank in Peterborough before his retirement in 2012. As a side gig he could be found driving his red 1948 Farmall Tractor, handed down to him by his father, around Hancock to various fields in town to mow. Edwin could also be found helping out with the Kiwanis Club of Peterborough’s many annual activities and was presented with an award for his over 20 years of dedicated assistance to the club in 2010.
In addition to his wife of 48 years, Nancy (Dunlap) Adams, Edwin is survived by his two daughters; Melinda Adams and her husband Jason Felton of Bennington; and Jennifer (Adams) Wallace and her husband David Wallace of Hancock. Also, his six grandchildren: Savanna and Ryan Houle, Grace and Emma O’Brien and Jackson and Dylan Felton. His brother and sister- in- law, Ernest “Bud” and Nancy (Price) Adams. Edwin is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son Edwin “Eddie” Adams, his twin sisters Sheilia Adams and Shirley Edmunds, his father Everett Adams and mother Hazel (French) Adams.
A memorial service will be held on September 14th at 11:00am at the First Congregational Church of Hancock, 47 Main Street, Hancock. A reception will follow in the Meetinghouse.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Edwin’s name to The Monadnock Adult Care Center, 22 North Street, Jaffrey, NH 03452.
