Elgie Mack

December 21, 1912 — February 23, 2015

Elgie Mack, 102, passed peacefully to eternal life, surrounded by her family, on February 23, 2015 at Summerhill Assisted Living in Peterborough, NH. Elgie is survived by her son Ron (Diane), son Don, and daughter Nancy Gasowski (Ron). She was loved by her grandchildren Laura Zajac (Kevin), Kristen Lewey (David), Donald Mack, Teri Tuttle (Bernie), Timon Gasowski (Lynn), and Sam Gasowski (Susan). She was a loving great-grandmother to Ciera, Hannah, Olivia, Alexandra, McCaffrey, Elizabeth, Otto and Emme. She was preceded in death by her husband Ken, her parents, and her beloved siblings Howard, Opal, Thelma, Evelyn and Harold. Elgie was born in Newport, Indiana on December 21, 1912, the daughter of Henry and Clara (Murdock) Meyers. She was a birthright member of the Quaker Church. She married Kenneth Mack in Newport in 1933 and in 1937, they moved to Detroit, MI where they raised their children. She worked tirelessly alongside her husband in the support of their family. Elgie spent 26 years on the assembly line for General Motors Fisher Body Division, retiring in 1972. Although she lived most of her life in Michigan, her heart was never far from her Indiana family. She loved traveling, camping and fishing with her husband, searching for the elusive morel mushroom, baking sour cherry pies and her favorite team, the Detroit Tigers. Most of all she loved her family. Her warmth and love surrounded you the moment she saw you and continues to be felt in her family's hearts today. Elgie's family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Summerhill Assisted Living, for the care and compassion she was shown over the past 7 years. The family also extends a special thank you to Reverend Barbara Harlow, Chaplain at Summerhill for the spiritual support she shared with Elgie and her family. Arrangements are being handled by Jellison Funeral Home in Peterborough, NH. Please feel free to share a special memory or condolence with the family at www.jellisonfuneralhome.com. Contributions in Elgie's name may be made to the American Friends Service Committee. AFSC is a Quaker organization that promotes lasting peace through justice, as an expression of faith in action. The address is AFSC Development, 1501 Cherry St., Philadelphia, PA, 19102. A memorial celebration of Elgie's life will be held in Newport, Indiana in the spring. THE GOOD THINGS To touch the cup with eager lips and taste, not drain it, To woo and tempt and court a bliss, and not attain it. To fondle and caress a joy, yet hold it lightly, Lest it become necessity and cling too tightly. To watch the sun set in the West without regretting, To hail its advent in the East, the night forgetting. To smother care in happiness and grief in laughter, To hold the present close, not questioning the hereafter. To have enough to share, To know the joy of giving, To thrill with all the sweets of life, is living. -Anonymous
