Francestown and Epping, NH
Elizabeth Jones, 93, of Epping and formerly of Francestown, died peacefully and surrounded by the love of her family on March 12, 2015 at the home of her daughter in Epping.
She was born on January 25, 1922 in Windsor, CT, the daughter of Amos C.Hoyt and Mildred (Derby) Hoyt.
Elizabeth was raised in the Hartford, CT area. She moved to Hanover Center where she attended and graduated from Hanover High School, followed by earning degrees in English and Music from the University of New Hampshire.
She was a teacher by occupation and nature. She taught students in music and English in Charlestown and New Boston, before settling in Francestown in 1950 with her husband of 61 years, Frank W Jones. Through the years she taught music in Francestown and many surrounding towns, and eventually taught English at Antrim Junior and Senior High School until her retirement from Great Brook School in Antrim.
Elizabeth was a devoted supporter of the American Heritage Tours and chaperoned those trips with hundreds of students and adults over the years. She also mentored a number of young girls as a Girl Scout Leader and 4-H Leader. In addition, she was very active in numerous other area church activities and Francestown activities including The Francestown Firemen's Auxiliary. After her retirement, Elizabeth's natural inclination toward teaching continued as she taught piano lessons for more than 30 years. In her retirement years, she enjoyed working at the former Crotched Mountain Ski Area. Elizabeth also exhibited her quilting and sewing talents at craft shows around New England where she enjoyed interacting with old and new friends. For many years Elizabeth enjoyed her hobby of taking and developing her own photos cherishing the most, pictures of her family.
She was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star and played the organ in the Antrim, Francestown, and New Boston churches. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and gardening. Her family was her most cherished treasure and her unconditional love of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings and extended family made her very special to those who loved her.
Elizabeth is survived by her children Frank A. Jones and his wife Nancy of Francestown, Nancy Russo and her husband Gregg of Epping, Beth Spead and her husband Bill of Brentwood and Janet Munson and her husband Eldin of Francestown She will also be missed by her 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, her sister Dorothy Smart of Hilton Head, SC, her brother Amos D. Hoyt of Lebanon, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sisters Janet Thompson and Helen Smith.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, March 18th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Jellison Funeral Home, 25 Concord Street, Peterborough. A memorial service will held Thursday March 19th at 3:00 PM at the Community Church of Francestown, 18 Main Street, Francestown. Burial will be held in the spring and private for the family.
