Elizabeth "Betsy" Salazar

March 16, 1944 — December 10, 2017

Hancock, NH

Mrs. Elizabeth (Sheldon) Salazar of Hancock, NH and, formerly,  of Groton, CT, died suddenly on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Monadnock Community Hospital.

She was born March 16,, 1944 to Gertrude (Gleason) and Simon Sheldon.  “Betsy”, as she was known to all, spent the majority of her life in her ancestral hometown of Hancock, NH.  She left  briefly to attend college in Colorado and  then moved to Connecticut  where she and husband George worked in the defense industry and raised their son, Daniel.

Betsy was deeply connected to the town of Hancock; she spent most of her lifetime enjoying all that the waters of Lake Nubanuset had to offer; swimming and ice fishing with her father as a child, and later delighting in her beloved granddaughters swimming and catching fish from her sun chair on the dock.  She generously volunteered for many community organizations; most recently, at the town dump’s “Swap Shop” where she could be found at her post twice a week, without fail, putting her New England sensibility to good use finding useful treasures and helping to keep things running smoothly.  Her extraordinary gardens will long remind all who knew Betsy of her lifelong passion for digging in the dirt and  her love of the outdoors.  Betsy was kind, spirited, and fiercely loyal to those she loved.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 49 years, George Salazar, her son Daniel and his wife Allyson Salazar, and her cherished granddaughters, Hazel and Amelia.

A graveside service will be private for family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Betsy’s name  to the Monadnock Humane Society in Swanzey, NH.
