Ellen Schadegg

d. December 15, 2021

Ellen Marie Schadegg, 78, of Hancock, passed away peacefully at Monadnock Community Hospital on December 15, 2021 after a period of failing health. Ellen, daughter of late August and Mary Schumacher, was born in 1943, and raised on a working produce farm in Lexington, MA.

She attended Lexington Minuteman High School in Lexington, MA. Following graduation, she attended Russell Sage College in Troy, NY and worked at Harvard Business School. While living in Cambridge, MA she met her husband of 53 years.

Ellen is survived by her husband John Schadegg; daughters, Heather Schadeggg of Lexington, MA and Holly Schadegg-Mehlenbacher of Hancock, NH (husband Joel Mehlenbacher); granddaughter Kate Mehlenbacher; her loving sister Mary Megson (husband James Megson) of Arlington, MA as well as many nieces and nephews. Ellen is predeceased by her brothers August Schumacher, Jr. of Washington, DC (wife Susan Schumacher) and John Schumacher (wife Judy Schumacher), of Chatham, MA.

After moving to Hancock in 1970 they began their family. She loved making improvements to their near 160 year old family home where she spent hours gardening and caring for the property alongside her cherished pets. She also enjoyed spending every summer on the Cape.  Ellen was a firm believer in education, kindness and community. Ever organized, she was a professional list maker and rarely procrastinated.  These served her well during her years working in the Guidance Department at ConVal High School.

A Celebration of Ellen’s life will be held privately for family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ellen’s name to The Jimmy Fund.
