Evelyn Marie Sanford, 85, of Greenfield, died at her home, while surrounded by the love of her family, on May 6, 2018.  She was born in Boston, MA on December 12, 1932, the daughter of Edwin Parkhurst and Harriett (Hill) Parkhurst.

Evelyn was a graduate of Watertown High School and Pondville School of Practical Nursing in Walpole, MA.   She moved to Greenfield in 1958 where she and her husband Ben raised their four children.

Evelyn enjoyed a long nursing career working at Monadnock Community Hospital, Bell Mar Nursing Home, Conelys Rest Home, Pheasant Wood Center, in addition to private duty nursing.

She was active in her children’s activities and community as a cub scout and brownie leader as well as an active member of the Greenfield Woman’s Club.  She was also a longtime member of the Greenfield Congregational Evangelical Covenant Church and served as a past president of the Women’s Fellowship and participated in many church activities and committees.

Evelyn, along with her husband, owned and operated Sanford Farms Homemade Jam and Jelly for 25 years.   They were proud to serve 27 flavors and sold them locally in gift shops, farm stands, craft fairs and small grocery stores.

She is survived by her daughter Sharon Kiver and husband Scott of Merrimack, son Glen Sanford of Manchester, son Dale Sanford and wife Ellen of Greenfield, and daughter Eleanor LeClair of Falls Church, VA.  She will also be missed by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Ben Sanford in 2010, to whom she was married for 54 years.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 12th at 2:00pm at the Greenfield Meeting House, 775 Forest Road, Greenfield, NH.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Evelyn’s name to  Samaritan’s Purse www.samaritanspurse.org, NH Association for the Blind www.futureinsight.org/donate, or American Heart Association www.donatenow.heart.org.
