Hancock, NH George Gustavson, 91, of Hancock, died in Peterborough, on June 29, 2014 after a short period of failing health. George was born on June 19, 1923 in New York City, NY the son of Fred Gustavson and Esther (Johanson) Gustavson. George grew up in the Bronx, NY and it was in NY where he met and married his beloved wife of 63 years, Beatrice (Nygard) Gustavson. Together, he and Beatrice moved to Pleasantville, NY in 1960 and in 1980 they retired to Hancock where they have resided since. He served in the United States Army Air Force during WWII as a Staff Sergeant. He was responsible for repairing and maintaining military aircrafts. He received his Master's degree in education from NYU and taught industrial arts in New York City. George was a parishioner of The First Congregational Church of Hancock where he sang in the choir. He will be remembered for his devotion to family, heritage and craftsmanship. In addition to his wife, George is survived by his daughter Janice and her husband James DeGrazia of Cranberry Township, PA and his son James and his wife Gale Gustavson of Morristown, VT. He will also be missed by his grandson David Gustavson of Burlington, VT, his granddaughter Jamie Gustavson of Brooklyn, NY, and his sister-in law Ester Gustavson, as well as many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at 2:00PM at The First Congregation Church of Hancock, 47 Main Street, The Reverend Judith Copeland will officiate. A reception will follow immediately in the Vestry. Burial will be private for family. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made in George's name to The First Congregation Church of Hancock, 47 Main Street, Hancock, NH 03449.
