Harrisville, NH James Frederick McKenna, 92, of Harrisville NH, and formerly of Massapequa, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family members June 5th. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, on 11/18/23, son of John and Augusta (Muckler) McKenna. He graduated from The High School of Music and Arts in NY. During WWII, he served for 3 years with the US Navy Seabees in Newfoundland and the Phillipines. Mr. McKenna was a commercial artist with Wm. Becker Studios in NY for 30 years, and worked as a free lance artist for Lord and Taylor, Bloomingdales and many other companies. He displayed his art work in a SOHO Art Gallery, NY, Winged Foot Golf Course, NY and many other art shows in NY and NH. After spending summers since 1961 in NH, he and his wife, Jean, retired to Harrisville in 1995. They spent the winters in Indian Beach, NC. In 2005, he became a communicant of St. Denis Church in Harrisville under the tutelage of Fr. James Walsh at St. Denis parish in Harrisville., Divine Mercy Parish in Peterborough, and St. Egberts Church in Morehead City, NC. Mr. McKenna was a former member of Monadnock Country Club in Peterborough and enjoyed golfing in his leisure time. He also enjoyed beach volleyball, water skiing, bowling and other outdoor sports with his children and grandchildren.. He enjoyed traveling to all the places on his wish list with his wife and family members. Survivors include his wife, Jean (Magilligan) McKenna of Harrisville, whom he married in St. Boniface Church in Sea Cliff, NY, in 1951: They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary February 3r d five sons, Timothy Scott McKenna and wife, Peri, of Jamaica Plain, Ma, Stephen Kelly McKenna and his wife, Laura of Silver Spring, MD, Brian John McKenna of Asheville, NC, David James McKenna of Aspen, Co, Shaun Lawrence McKenna and wife Cathy of Dedham, Ma; three daughters, Colleen Ansanelli of Amityville, NY, Megan Kathleen Himmelmann and husband, Michael of Massapequa Park, NY and Erin Aileen Boomgaard and husband, George of Amityville, NY; nineteen grandchildren which include Ari, Tobin, Noah, Hannah, Clay, Jonathan, Bethany, Carrie, Eric, Adam Sean, Nina, Hope, Rosemary, Luke, Zachary, Austin., Nick and Joe, his first great-grandson Logan Miles and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Patricia Dray of Smithtown, NY, brother-in-law, Lawrence Magilligan and wife Medy, of Winter Springs, Fla. and loving Aunt, Grace Dunne of Ridge, LI He was predeceased by an older brother, Walter, of Pawlett, VT. and wife, Eve, sister-in-law Rita and husband Roy Butler of Ormond Beach, Fla. brother-in-law Martin P. Dray of Smithtown, NY, and daughter-in-law Lani McKenna of Silver Spring, Md. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday June 18th at 2:00 PM at Divine Mercy Parish, 12 Church Street, Peterborough. Monsignor Gerald Belanger will be the Celebrant.
