James T. (Trueworthy) Norris, Jr., 82 of Peterborough, NH passed away peacefully at home on September 29, 2019. He was born in Melrose, MA on January 2, 1937, the son of James T. Norris, Sr. and Eleanor S. Norris. He was a graduate of Vermont Academy and Clarkson University where he was a member of Lambda Iota Fraternity. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps with rank of 1st Lieutenant. The Norris family chose North Reading, Massachusetts as home for the following 55 years.
Following active duty in the Marine Corps, James worked as an executive at Jordan Marsh, Lechmere Sales and later for Christian Book Distributors. He was President of the Friends of Austin Preparatory School and Austin Athletic Association. His passion in life was carving decoys and woodworking. He enjoyed spending summers on Lake Winnipesaukee surrounded by family. He was an avid fisherman, voracious reader of books and novels about history and the military and enjoyed boating, snow skiing, and smoking his pipe. He was an ardent Boston sports fan and loved watching the Bruins, New England Patriots, NH Chronicle and This Old House. He had a very easy going personality, lived life to its fullest, was very organized, detail oriented, and very much a gentleman.
He dearly missed his wife of fifty five years, Mary Norris nee Roux who passed away unexpectedly on December 22, 2015. They were soulmates and best friends that were rarely apart in all aspects of life.
James is survived by loving sons, James T. Norris III and his wife Jeany of New Boston, NH, Michael R. Norris and his wife Tara of Greenwich, CT and Christopher T. Norris and his wife Nancy of Cohasset MA; grandchildren, Jack, Shea, and Benjamin Norris. He was the brother of Nancy N. Simonds of Chesterville ME.
Burial will be private at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dover, NH and there will be no funeral mass offered.
