Janet Kane, 81 of Sarasota, Florida passed peacefully on September 6th at home surrounded by family after a brief fight with cancer.
Janet will be missed by her sister Judith Kulju of Sarasota Florida, daughters Samantha Walker of Greenfield, NH and Linda Quintanilha of Bennington, NH, their husbands, Steve Walker & Wagner Quintanilha and her four grandchildren Sarah Walker and Clara, Mary, and Charles Quintanilha. Janet is now reunited with her partner Arthur Thurber, her two sons, Rick and Roger Gagne and her parents Nicholas and Mary Kane.
Janet’s family and friends celebrate her accomplished life and her feisty charisma. Janet never let fun take a back seat and easily found accomplices for all her grand adventures. She was born November 14, 1942, in Concord, MA and raised in Maynard, MA. She received an associate degree from Endicott College in Beverly, MA.
She created memories for many when she established Dam Site Farm, a horse farm in New Ipswich, NH where she enjoyed riding, caring for animals, gardening and raising her family.
Janet became a nurse at the age of 52 and loved the work until she retired in 2007.
She was a talented painter - specializing in watercolor. Janet was never too far from a deck of cards, enjoying and usually winning any game she played. She was a serious bridge player and was awarded silver life master standing by the American Contract Bridge League.
After moving to Sarasota, she traveled the world with best friend – her sister Judy.
Janet’s family will hold a short graveside service at Smithville Cemetery in New Ipswich NH on October 6th at 1pm followed by a gathering at the Waterhouse in Peterborough, NH where loved ones will gather to wish her bon voyage on her final adventure and celebrate her beloved and mischievous spirit.
