Janet MacLachlan, 88, of Antrim died on September 20, 2014 in her home after a brief illness. She was the daughter of Clarence Hockridge and Marion (Goodrich) Hockridge. Janet grew up in Newton, MA. She graduated from Newton High School in 1943 and went on to graduate from Katherine Gibbs School in Boston in 1945. She and Wilton (Mac) were married in 1950 and lived in Sudbury, MA for 22 years where they enjoyed the childhood years of their family. Along with being a devoted mother, Janet worked in the English department of the Curtis Middle School in Sudbury. When Janet and Mac retired to Antrim, she enjoyed country life and participated in many church and civic activities. She was a member of All Saints' Church in Peterborough, The Antrim Woman's Club, Antrim Historical Society and the Monadnock Quilters Guild. She was a contributing editor of The Quarterly Journal and The Limrik. She was also a staff member of the Antrim Library, Serendipity Shop and a volunteer at All Saints' Church. Janet enjoyed gardening, tennis and sewing. She was an excellent seamstress and taught her daughters how to sew at an early age. One of her greatest joys and accomplishments was her love of quilting. She created many beautiful quilts for her family, friends and those in need. She was a "hand quilter" and her quilting was outstanding. She also enjoyed knitting lovely sweaters, hats and prayer shawls. Janet was a happy spirit. She was warm, friendly and kind with a great sense of humor. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Many of her friends have said she was their best friend. Janet was predeceased by her husband, Wilton R. MacLachlan in 2013. Together they enjoyed 63 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by her son, Douglas MacLachlan, who passed away in 2004. Janet is survived by her four daughters; Diane MacLachlan and her partner Brian Maurer of Nashville, TN, Gail MacLachlan and her husband Dana Sigall of Ipswich, MA, Judy Hilton and her husband Christopher Tuttle of Seattle, WA, and Laurie Maier and her husband Robert Maier of Sudbury, MA. She will also be missed by her five grandchildren; Adam Hilton, Luke Hilton, Henry Sigall, Sam Maier and Charlie Maier, as well as her two sisters, Nancy Lovell and Mary Ann Bako. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 11:00AM at All Saints' Church, 51 Concord Street, Peterborough. The Reverend Celeste Hemingson will officiate. A reception will follow the service at Reynolds Hall. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Janet's name to Home Healthcare Hospice and Community Services, PO Box 496, Peterborough, NH 03458.
