Jeanne Marie Noyes Hunter Shattuck of Peterborough passed away on December 20, 2017 at Cheshire Medical Center in Keene. She was born Somerville, MA on September 22, 1927 to Grace and Andrew Noyes.
Jeanne graduated from St. Clements High School and Lowell Teachers College in Massachusetts. She taught for many years at Center Elementary School in Chelmsford and at several parochial schools in the area. Moving to Peterborough in 1970 she taught at Peterborough Elementary before retiring from teaching and fulfilling her dream of writing and publishing a book, “Nuttings Lake Remembered”. As well as being a wonderfully descriptive writer Jeanne was a great swimmer and animal lover, never hesitating to give her children ponies, lambs, dogs, bunnies and baby chicks. She was particularly fond of dogs, especially her schnauzers, Toto, Bobo & Tobo. She loved spending time at the ocean in Wells Beach, ME.
During the last years of her life she was tirelessly cared for by her husband, Ralph. She will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Ralph L. Shattuck and her children; Denise Hunter Smith, Susan Hunter Elliott, Robin Hunter Monaco, and Bradley Mark Hunter and his wife Patricia and her stepsons Dale Shattuck, his wife Marion and Steven Shattuck, his wife Charlene. Grandchildren: Melissa Brook Layman, Wenona Danforth, Michael T Smith II, Amy Hunter, Kristen Hill, Brandon Elliott, Nicholas Monaco, Archie Hunter, Amber Hunter, Sarah Hunter, Nathan Chernis. Nicole Shattuck, Shellane Shattuck, Shaundra Shattuck. Great Grandchildren: Raven Ault, Hunter Ault, Liam Chernis, Hunter Hill, Zoey Hill, Rex Durniok, Ronan Hunter.
She was predeceased by her sons, Scott James Hunter and Kerry Andrew Hunter, stepson Ralph “Butch” Shattuck, grandson Kyle Durniok.
A graveside service will be announced in the spring.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Jeanne's name to Monadnock Humane Society, 101 West Swanzey Road, Swanzey, NH 03446.
