John James Young Jr

Peterborough, NH John James Young Jr.,94 , of Peterborough, died at Rivermead Lifecare Community, on November 6, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Brooklyn, NY on August 5, 1920 the son of John James Young Sr. and Edna (Lang) Young. John and his loving wife, Louise (McLean) Young shared almost seventy years of marriage. During this time they lived in Port Washington, Long Island, NY for fifty-seven years before moving to Peterborough to be closer to their son. They moved to Rivermead in 2008. In 1939, John signed on to a government pilot-training program sponsored by the CAA. He earned his private license flying Piper Cubs of Floyd Bennet Field and enrolled in additional courses including flight acrobatics. He made the decision to leave his senior year at LIU to continue his flight training. He was commissioned by The United States Government to fly with Pan American Airways during WWII as trans-Atlantic passenger service, Navy Air Transport Command and the Army Air Corp Transport Service. In 1949 his father needed help with the family business. John decided to end his airline career and return to New York to join him. It was not an easy decision, but it turned out to be the right one. Along with flying being one of his greatest passions, John enjoy golfing and watching his NY sports teams. He was a devoted family man who was caring, loving and selfless. He always put the needs of those he loved ahead of his own. John will be deeply missed by all who knew him. John is survived by his wife Louise (McLean) Young and his son John, R. Young of Bennington. He will also be missed by his two grandchildren; Stephanie White and Bailey Cooper, his two great grand-children, as well as his brother William Young from CA. John is predeceased by his daughter, Kathe Cooper, who died in 1995. Services will be private for the family. Jellison Funeral Home and Cremation Services is assisting the family with arrangements.
