Jonathan Andre Pope, 23 of Francestown, NH born November 17th, 1998 in Guatemala City, Guatemala, died suddenly on May 14th, 2022. He graduated from Trinity High School in Manchester, NH, in 2017. He attended College at Stonehill in Easton, MA and SNHU in Manchester, NH. He was a parishioner at Divine Mercy Parish in Peterborough NH and was deeply spiritual in his thinking and his actions.
Jonathan excelled at football as a running back and across all backfield defensive positions. In middle school, he was chosen as part of a 35 member roster of NH All-stars from various towns sent to represent NH in the American Youth Football National Championships in Florida where he ran for a 12-yard touchdown in the first game of the National Tournament against Pennsylvania Elite. He continued to play football throughout High School.
Recently, he was employed as a residential house painter at Pro-Image painting in Londonderry, NH and later as an industrial finish painter at Pro Finishing LLC in Hampstead, NH.
His other loves included fixing his recreational vehicles, deep sea and freshwater fishing, twice volunteering for construction work in disadvantaged areas in Guatemala, telling jokes and making up stories to entertain people. He had a very deadpan way of setting up the punch-lines to his jokes and greeted people head on with his enormous smile which lit up the room and his wide open hugs. He taught himself to be a barber and donated hundreds of haircuts to his friends and family. He loved the beach and ocean: Belize, the Dominican, Florida, Wellfleet, MA and Misquamicut, RI. He liked music, especially RAP and contemporary artists. Jonathan also loved all things “New England sports.” He respected and loved his family, friends and elders. He had a lifetime friendship with Sean Boggis, his next-door neighbor and Marla and Sylvie Holding of Francestown. In his early years he developed ongoing friendships with the Bois-Malicoat family of Provincetown, MA, formerly of Francestown. He remained lifelong friends too with Miles Paynch of Greenfield NH and London, Ontario. Finally, his girlfriend, Grace Lachance of Manchester NH, also brought love, joy, and companionship to his life. She, along with everyone he knew, will miss him dearly and hold his spirit forever in their hearts.
Jonathan is survived by his parents Buddy and Marcy Pope of Francestown, his brother Dana, Dana’s wife Samantha Pope and his nephew Brady Pope of Palm Bay Florida, his sister Grace Pope and her husband Drew Roberts of Auburn, NH, as well as countless aunts uncles and cousins ranging from coast to coast across the USA.
He was pre-deceased by his birthmother, Johanna Marichelle Alvarado Hernandez of Guatemala City, Guatemala, his paternal grandparents Harold and Veronica Pope of Amherst NH, and his aunt Nancy Ross of Madison New Jersey.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Jellison Funeral Home in Peterborough, NH. A Catholic Vigil will be held in his memory at Divine Mercy Church in Peterborough NH on Saturday May 21st, 2022, at 8am to 9am followed by a Catholic Mass. All are welcome to attend.
Burial will take place immediately after the Mass service at the Francestown NH Cemetery #3 on the 2nd NH Turnpike, followed by a reception at the Blue Bear Inn, 534 Mountain Road, Francestown, NH. Again, all are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family humbly asks for donations to be made in Jonathan's name to the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI New Hampshire) through their website at https://www.naminh.org/find-support/suicide-prevention
