Joseph M. Mello, 63 of Lunenburg, MA, passed away peacefully at his home on September 1, 2022 surrounded by the love of his family. He was born in Albuquerque, NM on November 19, 1958, the son of Raymond and Marlene (Page) Mello.
Growing up in a military family, Joe had moved quite a bit as a child, but had always considered the Leominster area home. It was there that he had graduated from Leominster High as Class President, and a proud member of its trade program. Joe continued his passion for trades throughout the entirety of his life, culminating to his “Small Engine Repair” business that became loved and respected in his community. Family and peers would say that Joe just couldn’t resist helping anyone with anything. This was especially true in the A.A community, where for over 10 years Joe spoke, served, and lived for helping countless people with their own struggles with recovery.
Joe is survived by his son Jeremiah Mello, along with his wife Kaitlynn (Sweeney) and their son Carter Joseph Mello, all of South Hadley, MA, brother Bryan Mello and his wife Marie (Martin) of Leominster, sister Katherine (Kitty Mello) and husband Jeff Beeler of Chichester, NH, brother Frank Mello of Leominster, MA, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his sister Patty Mello of Leominster, MA. Joe held many titles in his life, but was most proud of “Big Brother”, “Dad”, and most recently, “Grampa Joe”.
A Celebration of Joe’s life will be held on Friday, September 9th from 6pm to 9pm at The Fraternal Order of Eagles on 456 Litchfield St, Leominster, MA 01453.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joe’s name to a charity of your choosing.
