Kay Gertrude (Davidson) Anderson crossed the rainbow bridge on May 22, 2024, at the age of 75, after a brief but valiant battle against cancer. She passed away at home with her husband and nine dogs, including her beloved Teddy and Little Martha. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Tom, her son Dorian Lucca of Portland, ME and his 3 children Evan, Tyler and Carter, her 2 step-daughters Kimberly Anderson of Oregon, WI and her 3 children Zachary, Brodie and Taylor, Christine Gray (Dan) of Littleton, CO, and her brother William Davidson (Claire) of Hockessin, DE.
Kay was born in Elkton, MD to Evelyn Van Hazel Davidson and Charles Davidson. She attended public schools in New Castle, DE and graduated Wilmington College with honors and a bachelor's degree in Nursing. She worked in the former Wilmington Hospital where she was an ER nurse and taught pediatric nursing. Later, she left nursing to pursue a career in law enforcement, first as a Special Agent with the FBI investigating organized crime and later with the U.S. Department of Labor as a federal labor racketeering investigator in Philadelphia, where she met her husband Tom. In 1986 she joined the Wyeth Ayerst pharmaceutical company as a clinical investigator and retired in 2001 as Senior Director of Product Quality. She then returned to nursing as a hospital transport nurse and then a nurse at the Delaware County, PA prison. Moving along, she also was the day-time nanny for a family of six for a few years.
When Tom retired they moved to Francestown where her various other interests emerged. She loved to quilt, sew, bake, cook, hike, garden and spend time with her grandchildren. She was a voracious reader. In Francestown, she served as Health Officer for ten years and served on the Waste Disposal Committee at its inception. As a nurse, she taught LNA's how to pass their licensing exam. She provided hospice care to the elderly and then her true passion emerged in dog rescue. She fostered dozens of dogs for golden retriever rescues before helping to create Motley Mutts Rescue in 2020 with her friend Melissa.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for later this summer. More details to follow.
Donations in her name can be made to Motley Mutts Rescue. 114 Londonderry Turnpike, #4, Hooksett, NH 03106 or via motleymuttsrescue.org/volunteer-donate or any local animal rescue or shelter.
