Kenneth W. Belcher, 91, of Peterborough, passed away at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, after a brief illness, on July 31, 2018. He was born in Weymouth, MA on July 9, 1927, the son of Harold and Emily (Files) Belcher.
Ken was raised in Weymouth, MA. After a 30 year career in the United States Marines as a Master Gunnery Sergeant, he settled in Peterborough with his wife Ginny and their three children. Upon his military retirement, he began working at Brookstone where he worked for over 15 years.
He traveled to Haiti 20 times over the years to help with various mission projects. He brought his grandchildren one at a time on several of these trips.
Ken served as a volunteer at the Monadnock Christian Ministries for over three decades. He enjoyed his time spent with the guests and staff and was known for his delicious cookies. He loved doing puzzles and was an avid Red Sox fan. He enjoyed his meetings with the “Over-the-Hill” gang from church for coffee, goodies and conversation.
Ken was predeceased by his loving wife of more than 60 years, Helen “Ginny” Belcher in 2016. He is survived by his children Kenneth Belcher, and his wife Paula, of Kremmling, CO, Thomas Belcher, and his wife Debra, of Bennington, and Judith Haggett, and her husband Daniel, of Framingham, MA; and by his sister Barbara Sanderson of NC. He will be missed by his six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held on August 13, 2018 at 10:00am at the New Hampshire Veterans’ Cemetery in Boscowan, NH. A memorial service will follow at 1:00pm at the Monadnock Christian Ministries, 257 Dublin Road, Jaffrey, NH.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ken’s name to Monadnock Christian Ministries, PO Box 70, Jaffrey, NH 03452.
