Louise B. Cartier, 92, of Peterborough died at Rivermead Lifecare Community on February 22, 2017 after a period of failing health. Louise was born in Colchester, VT on January 5, 1925 the daughter of Earl Bullock and Dorothy (Smith) Bullock. She grew up in Methuen, MA where she graduated from Searles High School. Following high school she worked in the hospitality industry in West Palm Beach, FL. During this time she entertained troops in the USO, singing and dancing. Louise married Richard E. Cartier in October 1948. They had three daughters, and following a career in the oil business, settled in Ashburnham, MA in 1965. She attended Plymouth University while raising her daughters, and graduated from Fitchburg State College, majoring in Education and Art. She taught fourth grade at John R. Briggs Elementary School in Ashburnham, MA for many years. Louise was active in school committees, the Ashburnham Community Church, and the Stevens Memorial Library. In the early 90's she retired with her husband to Peterborough, NH, spending winters at their home in Punta Gorda Isles, FL, spring and fall at their cottage on Cape Cod. A very creative person, Louise was a master crewel artist, knitter, and seamstress, and skilled in many other crafts. After her retirement from teaching, she studied ceramics at the Sharon Arts Center in Sharon, NH. She enjoyed skiing, played tennis and golf, and with her husband, sailed in Charlotte Harbor, FL during the winters, and cruised from Cape Cod, Down East to Portland, Maine in their fishing trawler in the spring and fall . She was a wonderful scratch cook, and baker and an avid gardener with large vegetable and perennial gardens. After Richard's death in 2006, Louise moved to Rivermead in Peterborough. There she was known for her beaming smile, friendly personality, and desire to help others. She sang with the Rivermead Singers, volunteered for the library cart, played tournament croquet and enjoyed many other programs and events. Louise is survived by her daughters; Lin Hart and her husband Joe of Sharon, Carol Cartier of Peaks Island, ME, and Cindy Peterson and her husband Tim of Ashburnham, MA. She will also be missed by her ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren and her siblings; Lila Blechman of Damariscotta, ME, Ruth Seidel of Exeter, and Robert Bullock of Londonderry. Louise is predeceased by her husband Richard Cartier, sisters Alice Pomeroy, Mary Cook and brother James Bullock. A private family memorial will be announced at a later date.
