Margaret Eileen (Samuelson) Carr Margaret "Eileen" (Samuelson) Carr, 95, of Peterborough NH, formerly of Arlington MA, passed gracefully from this life September 2, 2016. She joins her husband of 25 years George, who passed in 1970. Eileen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and dear friend to many. She leaves her family Jo Anne Carr of Peterborough NH and Frances E. Carr and son-in-law Edward R. McMahon of Shelburne VT and her grandchildren Ethan W. Cline of Somerset NJ , Jason C. McMahon of Washington DC and Jodie S. McMahon of Narragansett RI. She was close to her brothers James, Leo, Francis, and Andrew Samuelson and their families including her sister-in-law Helen Goldstein with whom she shared many adventures. In her recent years, she joined the Rivermead community where she had developed dear friendships with residents and staff and especially with Bill Scholl, her cribbage partner and confidant. Eileen had a lively and varied background, born in Cambridge and always a fan of baseball and softball (she played first base). She met George when he was shortstop for the local American Legion baseball team. During the war, she was a medical transcriptionist and worked for the Quartermaster General of the Department of the Army in Boston. She and George married after he returned from his stint in the Navy and she worked at home making a wonderful life for her daughters. She was an excellent seamstress and even for a time had a small upholstery business with her mother in law. Eileen was quietly adventurous, unafraid to try new things, on her own terms. She learned to ski, took her daughters camping in the White Mountains and Canada, and travelled with her good friends. Ever active, Eileen loved to walk and go to the gym particularly as she joined the Peterborough community. Her zest for life continued as she moved to Rivermead; even going for a bike ride at at 95. Eileen picked up her professional life after the death of George and continued a 35 year career as a business manager for opthamology and neurology practices and finally as a consultant to the neurology practice after several unsuccessful attempts at retiring. Her compassion and activism for those in need was seen through her many years as a volunteer for the elderly assisting with health insurance and transportation. She also assisted Spanish speaking immigrants in her community navigate the health care system as well as fulfill everyday needs such as shopping and enrolling their children in the school system. Eileen enjoyed her family first and foremost with hosting numerous holiday gatherings and just as well exploring new adventures including travelling in the U.S. and overseas. A reception will be held at Rivermead, Peterborough NH on Sunday September 11, from 2-4pm. Funeral Services will be held Saturday November 12 from 1-3pm at Bigelow Chapel, Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge MA.
