Margaretta (“Daisy”) Desmond Gallagher Archie, of St. Louis, Missouri died Sunday May 7, 2023. Daisy was born on May 24, 1960, in Colorado Springs, CO. She is the daughter of Ellen MacVeagh Rublee and the late John Francis Gallagher II, and the stepdaughter Elayne Gallagher. She is survived by her husband of forty years, the Rev. Andrew John Archie, Rector of The Church of St. Michael and St. George, their children Ellen Margaretta Archie, Samuel Gray Ward Archie, and James Andrew Byrne Archie, and her siblings Ellen Warder Gallagher, Arthur Connell Gallagher, John Francis Gallagher III and Francis Hopkinson Gilbert. She is also survived by her stepbrother, Dr. Christopher Goodwin. Daisy is a graduate of Chatham Hall School, Kenyon College, and the University of Richmond School of Law.
Daisy did not see herself as heroic or exceptional, but Daisy was indeed a person of extraordinary personal character, with deep compassion for others. Daisy encouraged and delighted in her three children, at every step of the path from crib to fulfilling adult lives. At her husband’s side, Daisy was a treasured and faithful member of the congregation of the Church of St. Michael and St George in St. Louis, where her caring ear and heart, and always helpful hands, contributed immeasurably to the life and work of a large and vibrant congregation and the St Michael School. Every July, Daisy faithfully befriended and supported lifelong members and visitors to the summer chapel of Christ Church Dark Harbor, in Isleboro, Maine, where Andrew Archie has served as July Chaplain for thirty years. Within her beloved extended family of siblings and in-laws, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and grandparents, Daisy was the adhesive agent, tying together family in California, New Hampshire, Colorado, Illinois, Washington, D.C and more. Daisy’s quiet ways, warm but extraordinary gift for humor, and lifetime of expressing her love through innumerable acts of service are a testimony to God’s everlasting love. She will be missed dearly and deeply by all.
It is requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Margaretta Gallagher Archie fund at the Church of St Michael and St George.
