Marjorie Elizabeth “Betsy” Lake Grenier, 71, of Peterborough died on October 29, 2017 at Monadnock Community Hospital in the presence of her loving family. Betsy was born in Arlington, VA on April 26, 1946 the daughter of Alexander Lake (deceased) and Marjorie Farrington (Wood) Lake of Peterborough, NH.
Betsy grew up in Wakefield, MA and attended schools there. She went on to obtain her BFA from Salem State College (now Salem International University) and then her Master’s Degree in Special Education from Fitchburg State College. A talented artist, she was also a beloved teacher at Goffstown High School for more than 20 years and she will be deeply missed by her students, faculty and friends.
Loving the outdoors, Betsy spent much of her time gardening at her home, a small farm in Peterborough, where she lived with her husband Robert. Betsy had a special affinity for all animals, including her own dogs, cats, chickens and her three beloved rescued Arabian horses. She named her lovely NH farm "Foundling Farm" as she felt so deeply about rescuing mistreated animals.
In addition to her husband, Betsy is survived by her siblings; Alexis Lake of Lititz, PA, David Lake of Salisbury, NH, Dana Lake of Newbury, MA, Robert Lake of Boxford, MA and Carol Lake of Dublin, NH. She will be deeply missed by her many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on: Sunday, November 5 from 1 - 4 pm at her sister's home in Dublin. Those interested in attending should text 602-831-2630 to RSVP and for directions.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Betsy’s name to: Betsy Lake Memorial Fund c/o TD Bank, Peterborough NH, 03458. The family will be establishing a scholarship in her name for those considering a career with animals and/or special education.
