Jaffrey, NH Melvin Power, 79 of Jaffrey, died at Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough on January 26, 2015 after a sudden illness. He was born in Cambridge, MA on August 7, 1935 the son Lester Power and Ruth (Little) Power. Mel grew up in Cambridge, MA and graduated from Arlington Senior High School, Arlington, MA, and Franklin Pierce College, Rindge, NH. He served his country in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict. Mel went on to complete the Raytheon Company Drafting apprenticeship program and was employed with Raytheon at the Waltham and Burlington, MA plants. He also at Sander Associates in both Nashua and Manchester, NH Ball Bearings in Peterborough, and Franklin Pierce College. He was a Mason for over 50 years and the Past Master of Pacific Lodge No. 45, F. & A.M., Francestown. He was also a member of the New Hampshire Consistory. Mel was a loving husband and a cherished friend. He was well liked by all those who met him and enjoyed visiting with people. He could fix anything and was quite versatile with tools. He was a devoted member of St. Luke's Traditional Anglican Church where he served as treasurer and usher for many years. Mel is survived by his loving wife, Lillian Power of Jaffrey and his niece Janice Girouard of RI. Along with his parents, Mel is predeceased by his sister Avis Power. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 11:00AM at St. Luke's Traditional Anglican Church, 3 Limbo Lane, Amherst, NH 03031. Burial will be held at a later date at Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, MA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Mel's name to St. Luke's Traditional Anglican Church, PO Box 131, Amherst, NH 03031.
