Peterborough, NH Melvin Grant Weir, 89, of Peterborough died on December 1, 2016 at his home with his loving family by his side. Melvin was born on October 8, 1927 in Medford, MA, the son of John C. Weir and Elsie (Naughton) Weir. Melvin grew up and attended schools in Medford, MA. He obtained his associate's degree from Northeastern University in Boston. He worked as an electronics engineer for Raytheon in Bedford, MA and Acoustic Research in Cambridge, MA before moving from Reading, MA to Peterborough in 1966 to work for Honeywell-Electropac. Melvin was a parishioner of the Church of Christ in Nashua for many years and was most recently a parishioner of the Jaffrey Presbyterian Church. Music was a big part of Melvin's life. He played the cornet in the high school band, enjoyed playing the harmonica, and studied classical guitar. He was a certified scuba diver and took pleasure in diving off the shore of Fort Foster, ME. Melvin also enjoyed building and flying model airplanes and rock hunting around the areas that he lived. Melvin is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Alice (Bento) Weir of Peterborough, and his three children; Marilyn Weir of Peterborough, Janet Coffey and her husband, Paul, of Holliston, MA and David Weir and his wife, Elizabeth, of Millis, MA. He also will be missed by his four grandchildren; Neal Coffey of Brick, NJ, Kimberley Coffey of Manchester, Jonathan and Joshua Weir, both of Millis, MA; and his nephew, Donald Weir of Peabody, MA. Melvin is predeceased by his brother Ronald Weir and his sister Elizabeth Weir. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 17, at 2 p.m. at Jaffrey Presbyterian Church, 33 Main Street, Jaffrey, NH. A Reception will immediately follow the service at the Peterborough Unitarian Universalist Church, 25 Main Street, Peterborough, NH.
