Michael D. Hanson, 62 of Peterborough, passed away peacefully, and surrounded by the love of his family, at his home on December 8, 2023. He was born in Peterborough on March 26, 1961, the son of Alvin Joseph and Elizabeth (Blanchette) Hanson.
Mike grew up in Peterborough and attended local schools. He began working at East Coast Steel in Greenfield as a young man and stayed in the steel industry throughout his entire career, retiring from American Steel after more than two decades. He made countless friends during his time at American Steel.
Mike liked to fish, loved his dogs, and enjoyed watching the Boston sports teams with his siblings. Above all, Mike liked to have a good time and he wanted everyone else to have a good time too. He liked to socialize and make people happy, whether at an event or in his own yard, the people in his life were the most important to him.
Mike is survived by his siblings Alvin Hanson, Jr., Deb Hanson, Sandy Hanson, and Bruce Hanson. He will be deeply missed by his nieces and nephews, Krystal (Zak), Erica (Michael), Joshua (Jess) and his great-nieces and nephews, Michael, Austin, Violet and Finn. Mike also leaves behind many good friends including his buddies Steve and Terry who he enjoyed visiting with until the end, Brush and Anne who gave unending support, and Mike and Laura who continued to keep Mike in their thoughts and prayers and supported him and his family throughout his illness. The family also wishes to thank the caregivers from Home Health and Hospice for their loving care of Mike.
A Celebration of Mike’s life will be held on Sunday January 14, 2024 from 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM at the American Legion Post 11, 20 Webster Street, Jaffrey, NH.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Mike’s name to Home Healthcare Hospice & Community Services, 312 Marlboro St., Keene, NH 03431.
