Patricia Anne Boyd

April 13, 1941 — May 2, 2014

Peterborough, NH Patricia Anne Boyd (nee Berg) of Peterborough died on May 2, 2014 at her home. She was born in Englewood, NJ on Easter Sunday, April 13, 1941 to parents Robert and Dorothy Berg. She was raised in Rumson, NJ and was valedictorian at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School in 1958. She attended the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor as an English Education major, but was married after her first year to Robert Lee Boyd, of Indianapolis, after meeting him on Valentine's Day. Her husband's job brought her back east where she finished college at Douglass College at Rutgers University. She was graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1962. The Boyds resided in Scotch Plains, NJ for 3 A½ years, and then moved to Woodcliff Lake, NJ. For the next 11 years, Mrs. Boyd concentrated on raising her four children and extensive community work: Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, and the PTA. Simultaneous with her husband's beginning his own business, Mrs. Boyd began a 12-year employment at Columbia University's Health Sciences campus in Manhattan, first as Administrative Coordinator of the Student Health Services, next as Assistant to the Dean for Special Projects, and finally as the Executive Assistant for the Vice President of Health Sciences and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. While working at Columbia, she was elected to serve as a Woodcliff Lake school board member (President 2 years), and then as town councilwoman. She is most proud of her participation on the committee to choose a new superintendent of schools, and of her borough work as the police commissioner and co-finance chair. Mr. Boyd decided to sell his business, and the Boyds moved to Peterborough, NH in 1992. Mrs. Boyd was employed as the Medical Staff Coordinator for Monadnock Community Hospital for six years. She returned to civic participation as a board member for the Peterborough Players, Monadnock Summer Lyceum, HCS Hospice and the Monadnock Community Early Learning Center. In 2012, she was named Citizen of the Year by the Peterborough Chamber of Commerce, and in 2013, the Peterborough Players presented her with the Edith Bond Stearns award. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert L. Boyd, and their children: Brenda and Andrew Cannon (Amherst, NH) and their daughters Margeaux and Julia; Michael Boyd and Letitia Rice (Bennington, NH) and their children Taylor and Evan; Anne Boyd (San Diego, CA); and Robert and Karen Boyd (Salem, NH, recently returned from Germany). Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday May 6th from 2:00 - 4:00 PM and 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Jellison Funeral Home, 25 Concord Street, Peterborough, NH. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday May 7th at 11:00 AM at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 25 Main Street, Peterborough, NH. The Reverend David Robins will preside.
