Randolph Richard Roody (Randy) died July 6, 2023 after a lengthy co-existence with Parkinson’s Disease.
Born August 6, 1943, Randy was raised in Concord, NH, the son of Rudolph Knoetzsch (R.K.) Roody and Felicia G. (Pelczarski) Roody. Randy graduated from Concord High School (1961) and Colby College (1965) where he majored in German. Neither suited for, nor particularly interested in teaching German, Randy joined Sears Roebuck’s Executive Trainee program. This started a life-long career in business, particularly sales and marketing. During the summer after graduation Randy met his future wife, Deborah Spencer, and they were married in 1967. A month after the wedding they left for their “trip of a lifetime” in Europe and didn’t come home for 5 years. After travelling for 3 months (the honeymoon part) they settled in Ludwigshafen, Germany, later moved to London for a year, then back to Germany where they lived in a tiny village outside of Freiburg. During this time Randy worked in insurance sales, investment sales, and finally electronics sales. When asked how they did all that, he would reply, “We did it because we didn’t know we couldn’t!” This attitude marked many adventures through their married life. Randy served in the Army Reserves in Bath, Maine and later in the US Air Force Reserves in Germany.
Returning to the States, Randy worked for Buckbee Mears Company of St. Paul, Minn. – New England region. Deb and Randy settled in Derry, NH, then moved to Allentown, PA where he served the mid-Atlantic region, then back to Merrimack, NH to cover the northeast territory. When he was recruited by Teradyne Connection Systems for a sales and marketing position, they moved to Bedford, NH. During these 42 years, Randy was active in an investment club, the Canoe Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club, the NH Germanic Association, and Bedford Land Trust, as well as serving on the Board of Directors for the NH Community Loan Fund. In 2015 they moved to RiverMead, a life care community in Peterborough, NH. In retirement Randy served as a SCORE (Service Core of Retired Executives) counsellor to small businesses, an activity that he enjoyed greatly, and which used his years of knowledge and experience. In leisure time, he and Deb made several bike trips along the rivers of Germany and explored bike trails in the Netherlands as well as here at home.
Randy was pre-deceased by his parents, his aunt Trudy Roody, and sister Patricia Roody (2020) and is survived by his wife Deb, a cousin Valerie Sweeney Winchester and her daughter Alexandria Winchester, as well as many friends and former colleagues who valued his friendship, kindness, and integrity.
A Celebration of Life will be held at The Cathedral of the Pines in Rindge, NH on August 6th from 1-4 PM. All are welcome. An RSVP would be appreciated either in the RiverMead mailroom Activities book, or to deb1roody@mac.com . In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Michael J.
