New Ipswich, NH Richard Edwin Addiss, 87, of New Ipswich, died at Concord Hospital, on May 19, 2015 after a brief illness. He was born in Elizabeth, NJ on April 24, 1928, the son of Nathaniel Stephen Addiss and Elizabeth DeVall (Ricks) Addiss. Richard was a long time resident of Long Island, NY. He served in The United States Navy as a Ship Fitter Third Class shortly after World War II. After his term in the military he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Hofstra University after attending night classes for 12 years. He worked as an engineer at Grumman Aerospace for 37 years. He moved to New Ipswich in 1991 with his loving wife, Gladys, where they enjoyed their retirement together. Richard was a talented woodworker. He enjoyed hunting, camping and photography. He loved to travel and he and Gladys traveled all over the country in their mobile camper, including two trips to Alaska. Richard is survived by his daughter Laura Jean Kann and her husband Erwin of Wilton, NH, his four sons; William Addiss and his wife Corinne of Centereach, NY, David Addiss and his wife Christine of Port Jefferson Station, NY, Robert Addiss and his wife Anna of Merrimack, NH, and Daniel Addiss of New Ipswich, NH. He will also be missed by his twelve grandchildren, five great grandchildren and his sister Betty Addiss Filson and her husband Daniel of West Palm Beach, FL, as well as many nieces and nephews. Richard is predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Gladys Addiss who died in 2012. Calling hours were held Tuesday, May 26, 2015 from 6:00PM-8:00PM at O.B. Davis Funeral Home, 1001 New York 25A, Miller Place, Long Island, New York. The burial followed on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at 11:00AM in Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, Long Island, New York. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made in Richard's name to The Alzheimer's Association (http://alz.org).
