Roberta D. Nylander, 84, of Hancock, passed away peacefully after a sudden illness on December 26, 2021. She was born in Melrose, MA on November 4, 1937, the daughter of Paul and Therese (Grourke) Daly.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of New Hampshire in 1959. She worked as a teacher for over forty years. She loved teaching and was noted for her dedication to education.
“Bobbie” as she liked to be called by her friends and family, was active in her community. She loved Hancock, serving the community in many different roles including the Planning Board, Archives Committee, Historic District Commission, and as a Cemetery Trustee. She also worked as the Children’s Librarian at the Hancock Library for many years.
She also served on the board of the Hancock Historical Society, for twenty years. She was known as the town Historian, deeply involved in local family history research. She was a contributing editor to newsletters, articles, and publications, and she shared her knowledge by volunteering in local schools including Hancock Elementary School and Great Brook Middle School.
Bobbie Nylander is survived by her son Michael Nylander and daughter-in-law Pennie Nylander, a daughter, Elizabeth Nylander Lent, and son-in-law Stephen Lent, and her beloved grandchildren Elisa Nylander Freeman, Matthew Nylander, Emily Nylander Richard and her husband Ernie Richard, Christina Nylander and her fiance Conner Sesso, Abigail Lent and her fiance Alex Brown, and Cameron Lent. She also leaves behind nieces and nephews, Jayme Barrett, Martin Barrett, Michael Barrett, Timothy Barrett, and his wife Oliko Barrett and Courtney Andrews, and his wife Alicia Andrews, as well as grand nieces and nephews, Alex, Will, Tommy, Kate, Maddie, Mikey, Charlie, Suzie, and Tina and her great-grandson, Skyler Freeman.
She is predeceased by her husband, Russell A. Nylander, a sister, Patricia Daly, and leaves behind sisters, Donna (Daly) Barrett, her husband Martin Barrett, and Joyce (Daly) Andrews and her husband Thomas Andrews, and her brother, Paul C. Daly.
Bobbie and Russ turned their Hancock home into the family Homestead welcoming the entire family. She was a mother to all of us and will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 2, 2022, from 12 pm to 4 pm at Jellison Funeral Home, 25 Concord Street, Peterborough, NH. Burial will take place in the spring at Hillside Cemetery, Hancock and a Celebration of Roberta’s life will be announced at that time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Roberta’s name to the Hancock NH Historical Society.
