Rose Sutcliffe

November 15, 1922 — March 17, 2015

Peterborough, NH Rose Carlen Sutcliffe ,92, died at Cheshire Hospital on March 17, 2015. Born on November 15, 1922 in Liverpool England, she was the daughter of Flora Livingston Carlen and James Carlen. She lived in Liverpool until 1948 where she survived World World II air raids .She met her future husband , Dennis Sutcliffe in September 1942 while Dennis was stationed in Seaforth with the US Army. They dated for seven months before Dennis was sent to North Africa , Italy and other locations, the couple corresponded with letters when possible throughout the war. After years of writing letters with Dennis , Rose left Liverpool on June 1, 1948 on the Queen Mary bound for the United States. Rose and Dennis married on June 25, 1948 in Peterborough NH. Rose's survival of the hardships of war and blitzes prepared her for the hazards of raising seven children. She was compassionate and cheerful , always answering the how are you? with an upbeat "fine !", in her later years she would say "fine for an old lady" . She was happiest when those she loved were happy and was loved by all who knew her. Rose was a Mom to her seven kids and to many of their friends over the years. Many of us could learn a few things about love, forgiveness and accepting the challenges of life without whining ,from this woman with humble beginnings. She was the Queen of survival, a Brit with a steadfast core. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Dennis Sutcliffe. She is survived by her four sons, Kenneth of Peterborough, Barry of Peterborough, Dennis of Campton, and Gary of Peterborough; three daughters, Sandra Dukette of Greenfield, Irene Webb of Colorado and Kathy England of Colorado: one brother Kenneth Carlen of Liverpool, 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. The funeral will be held Saturday at 3:00 at Trinity Evangelical Church with a reception to follow.
