Ruth Dickinson Viall, a long-time resident of Rivermead in Peterborough, NH, died peacefully on Sunday, October 25, at the age of 102. She was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada in 1913 and grew up in Audubon, Iowa. She received a Master of Science from the University of Illinois and lived for many years in Winneteka, IL. Ruth was a librarian at New Trier High School and a children's librarian for the Illinois School District.
In 1963 Ruth married Willard Viall of Barrington, RI and moved to New England, which she loved. They retired to Hancock, NH where she volunteered at the Hancock Library, and enjoyed gardening, listening to classical music, traveling, hiking and snowshoeing. Ruth was an avid reader and appreciated good writing. Both she and her husband were devoted to their dog and cat.
Ruth is survived by her niece, Barbara Gordon of Quakertown, PA; her nephew, James Bixby of Harrisburg, PA, and two grandnephews, Will Bixby and J.D Bixby of Pittsburgh, PA.
A private service will be held for the family. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Jellison Funeral Home in Peterborough. Memorial donations may be made to the SPCA. The family is grateful for the excellent care provided by the staff at Rivermead and Hospice at HCS.
