Shirley M. Franchi

Shirley M. Franchi, 94, of Peterborough, NH, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024. Shirley was born on April 8, 1930, in Washington, DC, the daughter of the late Dr. Thomas and Mrs. Kobe Hearne. Shirley lived in Peterborough for the past 35 years, previously living in Ohio, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut.

Shirley attended schools in Melrose, MA and graduated from Wheaton College. Shirley and her late husband Bill Franchi were married in 1985. They retired to Peterborough, NH in 1989 after living in Massachusetts. Shirley and Bill enjoyed retirement life in the Monadnock region. Frequent activities included walking the local trails, attending shows at the Peterborough Playhouse, and enjoying lunch at the cafés and inns in nearby towns. They loved traveling abroad to England, Germany, Switzerland, and Italy, and taking overnight road trips to the Maine coast. Shirley and Bill were active in the Peterborough Unitarian Universalist Church and looked forward to serving the community at the weekly outreach potluck dinners.

Shirley was predeceased by Bill, her husband of 32 years, her son Griffith Roberts of Fairfax, CA, her sister Dorothy Hearne Sundstrom (Roy) of Sacramento CA, and her brother Thomas Hearne (Leanne) of Maple Grove, MN. She is survived by her daughter Jennifer Roberts and grandsons Tristan Huisingh and Bryan Huisingh, all of Clinton, IA, daughter-in-law Yvonne Roberts of Fairfax, CA, brother David Hearne (Libby) of Falmouth, MA, and brother Peter Hearne (Martita) of Honduras. Franchi family members include Christine Baldwin (Jack), Barbara Osterhout (John), Janice Wiles (Lynn), grandchildren Robin Osterhout (Ben Bostwick), Jessica Osterhout, Christopher Wiles, Kaitlyn Wiles, Rebecca Wiles, and great grandsons Noah Bostwick and Lucas Bostwick.

There will be no calling hours or memorial service.
